______________________________________________________________________________________

This year’s ride has a special meaning and support a cause I believe in with all my heart. I only ask that we give one woman, one child a chance to change the path they are on. I am not asking for any money nor for anyone to feel like they are expected to do anything other than enjoy the ride. But, I wanted to share a little something so you know were the proceeds are going this year.

I have attached the link, watch the video, it’s amazing.  Sad but good in many ways. This ride goes to help RunForCongoWomen! There is a story to tell that needs to be heard. Learn more! Our company would like to be the first to help with the upcoming event in Portland, Oregon this year.

The most important thing we must do is work together to ensure the safety of all riders. Thereafter, the race is on to Brooking, but remembers the turtle always win. :)   I don’t want you to finish the ride with only memories of colors. Stop to view the beaches, light houses, cliff, many viewpoints, whale watching, and more as you travel.

We will travel west on hwy 26 straight to Cannon Beach. Upon arrival we will start with a group picture, review some safety rules of the road and enjoy lots of laugher. Our ride will start right in the center of Cannon Beach (2nd & Hemlock) near the water.

The view of Haystack Rock and the summer tours are sure to add a few more laughs.

Earth set for full moon close-up

Full moon over San Francisco
The moon will appear high in the night sky

A full moon is set to occur closer to the Earth on Friday evening than it has done for the past 15 years.

The Moon’s elliptical orbit means its distance from the Earth is not constant.

It will be a little over 350,000km away as it passes over the northern hemisphere, which is about 30,000km closer than usual.

If the sky is clear it will appear brighter and larger than usual, say astronomers.

Closest path

Friday’s full moon could appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter than other full moons this year, Nasa said.

The Moon’s orbit is elliptical, meaning it does not follow a circular but rather an oval path.

It is currently approaching the point where this oval orbit is nearest to the Earth.

“It’s only every few years that a full moon happens to coincide with the part of the Moon’s orbit when its closest to the Earth,” said Marek Kukula, an astronomer at the UK’s Royal Observatory.

“What people will see is a full moon that’s really bright and a bit bigger than what they’re used to.”

It will appear largest as it rises and sets, but this is a psychological illusion, Dr Kukula said.

“When it’s close to the horizon, our brain interprets it as being bigger than it actually is, this is called the moon illusion,” he said.

“The size may be striking when it’s near the horizon,” said Robert Massey of the UK Royal Astronomical Society.

However, he cautioned against expecting too much.

“The Moon may be brighter and may appear somewhat larger, but it’s really quite hard for the eye to notice the difference; the eye will compensate for the extra brightness, it’s not like going from night to day,” said Dr Massey.

The Moon’s brightness varies throughout its annual cycle, during the mid-winter in the northern hemisphere it can appear brighter simply because it is higher in the sky.

One of the projects the Obama Inaugural Ball is supporting is the Royal Rosarian Foundation:

ROSES” Field Trip Project

Since, 1912, the Royal Rosarians have been, by the Mayor’s proclamation, the “Official Greeters and Ambassadors of Good Will for the City of Roses.” The Royal Rosarian Foundation is engaged in a growing program of support for our community in three distinct areas of influence. They are engaged in helping improve the lives of Children at Risk, providing Music Scholarships for Youth and encouraging community Spirit.

One of the projects the Foundation supports is the “ROSES”* Field Trip Project – The Foundation provides funding for Portland Public Schools children to attend field trips with their classmates so that they are not left behind. The Funds provide the admission tickets for those who can not afford them and gives the Elementary School principals the ability to provide transportation to plays and other events, for which they received donated tickets, but otherwise could not have attended.

Antonio Lopez, Principal at Clarendon-Portsmouth Elementary School wrote in his evaluation, “It was great to not have to say, “Sorry, you can’t go.”” At Vernon School, the students in the seventh and eighth grade classes were given field trips for maintaining good grades and good behavior. Leslie, Butterfield, interim Principal wrote, “… Without this kind of assistance we can not offer many of the enrichment/rewards types of opportunities to our kids.”  It is through donors like yourself that funds can be provided to more principals to make a difference in the lives of children, youth, and our community…a benefit that will enrich all of us.

Come to the Obama Inaugural Ball and help support this worthwhile cause. If you would like further information about this program or other programs being done by the Royal Rosarian Foundation go to www.royalrosarianfoundation.org.

Hi Friends,

I have a show opening here, in Portland, in December. It opens on First Thursday, December 4th 6:00-8:30. Since the gallery is not hosting a first Wednesday, I’ll be giving a gallery talk on December 13th at 1:00 in the afternoon. Eva Lake will also be interviewing me on KBOO first Thursday at 10am.

I would be delighted if you could make it by to see the show.

Attached are a couple of images of work in the show and the press release sent out by the gallery. Please excuse the quality of the photos – haven’t yet had them professionally shot so these are just my studio photos and are of much lesser quality.

You can drop off your much need donation from 8am to 6pm. You don’t even have to get out of the car, just hand your can of food to one of the hotel valets. Please pass this email onto anyone living in the Portland Metro Area. Our goal is to fill at least one 150lb barrel per day. Thank you for your support in advance.

 Sincerely,”

December Solo Exhibit:

 Katherine Ace: Creation/Chaos

First Thursday: December 4th 5pm – 8:00pm
714 NW Davis St, Portland, OR 97209

Artist website:  http://www.katherineace.com/

Gallery Hours: Tuesday – Saturday 10:30 to 5:30pm

We are pleased to announce Katherine Ace’s third solo exhibit at Froelick Gallery. In Creation/Chaos Ace continues her alkyd/oil painting and collage techniques. Parallels can be found throughout disparate culture’s creation myths, as well as secular beliefs such as the Big Bang theory. In each story there is an element of chaos and turmoilthat in turn generates life. This act of creation through chaos guides Ace’s paintings; seemingly ordered, traditional still-lifes belie the hectic compositions simmering just under the surfHeaps of crumpled newspapers on window ledges peer out to pastoral landscapes, whiat the same time screaming headlines of catastrophe, disasters and calamity. Fruits and flowers mingle on a pebble strewn river-bank while reflections of the Milky Way shinethe tranquil water. These paintings of creation myths are figurative representations of ocontemporary society. Natural and man-made disasters, while horrific, can lend themselves to rebirth and life.

Katherine Ace is originally from Chicago and has a BA from Knox College, Galesburg, IL. Her work has been featured in numerous shows and collections including Elmhurst Art Museum, IL; Portland State University, Littman Gallery; the Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle; and most recently a solo exhibit at the Ellen Noel Art Museum of Odessa, Texas, which also acquired two of her paintings for their permanent collection.

Please contact the gallery for reproduction quality images.

’Twas the Night before Christmas . . . in Oregon

Famed children’s classic is the theme for Pittock Mansion’s festive holiday season, Nov. 24 – Dec. 31.

Clement Clark Moore’s classic, “The Night before Christmas,” provides the delightful theme for this year’s holiday celebration at Portland’s historic Pittock Mansion. Each of the mansion’s 23 rooms will reflect a verse from the familiar 1823 children’s poem.

Holiday season at the Pittock – when the early-20th-century home is elaborately decorated and features a festive holiday theme – is one of the mansion’s most popular events. This year, holidays at the mansion will be on view from Monday, Nov. 24, through Wednesday, Dec. 31. http://www.pittockmansion.org/christmas.asp
