Lined by All-American Highway 101 to the east and the wild Pacific Ocean to the west, the Oregon Coast is 363 miles of rugged shoreline, where tide pools and hiking trails share sunsets with beach towns and lighthouses, and where visitors can connect with a frontier that promises to never fade away. That assurance comes from Oregon state law, which stipulates that from the surf to the brush, “the public has free and uninterrupted use of the beaches.” Come experience this for yourself.  We will start with a beautiful drive along the Wilson River, then stop at the Tillamook Cheese Factory or Blue Heron French Cheese Company, take a train ride on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad, and have lunch in Manzanita. After lunch there will be time to explore beaches and take beautiful photos, as we head north to Haystack Rock and top off the day by exploring the beautiful town of Cannon Beach.20161019_134856

8:30 am Departure:

Head west on Hwy 26 through the north Willamette Valley. Then drive through the Tillamook State Forest on the Wilson River Highway with wonderful views of the Wilson River, which is a popular destination for Salmon fishing.

Tillamook Cheese Factory

Enjoy a self guided tour of the Tillamook Cheese Factory and witness delicious Tillamook cheese being made! 171,000 pounds of cheese are made at this factory on a daily basis that you will have the opportunity to try  in their cheese sampling area.  There will also be time for shopping in their gourmet shop for Northwest goodies like smoked salmon and marionberry jam! Don’t forget to try some Tillamook ice cream and stop in at the gift store.

Blue Heron Cheese Company: They are an Oregon-based company celebrating over 37 years in business in the Pacific Northwest. There is something here for the entire family. Sample their famous Blue Heron Brie, try their gourmet foods, taste Oregon’s finest wines or wander through their unique gift store. They also have a wonderful petting farm for the kids to visit.

12:00 pm – 12:30pm  Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad

Step back in time and experience a bit of yesteryear. Enjoy the beautiful Oregon coastline by riding the rail behind a historic Steam Locomotive. This scenic trip chugs along Tillamook Bay and gives passengers views of the ocean. Great for all ages, this trip will give you a glimpse into history and a unique view of the Oregon Coast and the Nehalem River Canyon. You will start your train ride in Garibaldi and be met by your tour guide in Rockaway Beach to continue your northbound journey along the Oregon Coastline.

Lunch in Manzanita

We will take a short drive through Manzanita and stop for lunch in this cozy little coastal community. Optional stop to take a quick stroll on the ocean and snap some photos of  great Mt. Neahkanie.

Coastal View Points

The drive past Neahkahnie Mountain is one of the highest viewpoints along the Coast range. This peak is an inspiring place, where the Tillamook tribe believed their most powerful god resided. In fact, the name Neahkahnie comes from their words Ne (“place of”) and Ekahnie (“supreme deity”). Enjoy great views of wind-swept trees, dramatic cliffs, a historic light-house, bird sanctuaries and of course the majestic Pacific Ocean on your way to Haystack Rock and Cannon Beach.

Haystack Rock – Cannon Beach

En-route to Cannon Beach, we will stop at Haystack Rock which is one of Oregon’s most recognizable landmarks, home to colorful tidepools and diverse bird life. It rises 235 feet from the edge of the shoreline. At low tide, you can walk right up to it and find colorful sea stars and other fascinating tidepool creatures in its intertidal area. Puffins can be observed on Haystack Rock from early spring to mid-summer, offering the most accessible viewing of Tufted Puffins in the Northwest.

Cannon Beach

Cannon Beach is a picturesque small-town village by the sea which is easily walkable and visitors can explore meandering pathways, enjoy public art and courtyards spilling over with flowers. Known as one of the Northwest’s top art towns, Cannon Beach is filled with art galleries, specialty shops, cafes and fine dining restaurants.
