Our itinerary is designed carefully to bring the warmth and color of the Portland landscape and its people to life and illustrate the fresh regional produce from the market to the table, we will be combining our menu with the specialty of each region, but the intriguing thing in this trip is the possibility of cooking and dining with award winning chefs.
General Description
Highlights New Orleans: Music, Arts, Food, Culture and Entertainment
- New Orleans is highly recognized for its premier art museums. Spectacular museums, contemporary art centers and many galleries throughout the French Quarter for over 200 years.
- Explore the French Quarter and its architecture, courtyards, shopping, dining, music, arts and garden.
- Start with a cup of cafe au lait, glass of wine or a cold beer while walking the waterfront enjoying music, dance, arts and pass steam boats ready to take you sightseeing.
- Steam Boat tours on the esplanade with dinner, cocktails, views and historical information
- Entertainment and educational events in the French Quarter honoring New Orleans’ native son, Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong.
All local transportation, lodging, and miscellaneous fees will be included in the price. Please note meals are not included.
Note: America’s Hub World tour guides are full time staff members who are knowledgeable of the New Orleans. The guide will be able to share information and expand your knowledge of the cultural, political, and economic state of the area. We want to ensure you have a wonderful experience and return home with many stories to tell.
ITINERARY
Day 1: New Orleans Upon arrival at the New Orleans airport we suggest America’s Hub World Tours guide will ensure all necessary documents are obtained and your baggage gathered. Depart to the hotel for check in and a chance to review your trip itinerary. Still today there are many conversations talking about the future of the city and its many treasures that cannot be forgotten.
French Quarter: The best way to get immerged is to start with the French Quarter by walking and viewing many of its historical monuments. You can stand In the middle of the street and watch it come to life in front of your own eyes. There are many architecture, courtyards, food, music, arts and gardens.
Lunch: When in New Orleans eat and drink to the music! Our first stop will be Felix’s Oyster Bar. Belly up to the bar for some fresh shucked oysters, gumbo, or a plate of crawfish prepared New Orleans style.
Dinner: You travel back to the hotel for a moment of relaxation and a chance to freshen up for the evening entertainment. Don’t worry about not getting a chance to see everything the first afternoon. We have chosen a special place for you to enjoy dinner at Praline Connection (Learn more) and spend a little more time exploring the French Quarter at night with its entire street and music scene. For those interested in a little music and entertainment we selected the Preservation Hall a great place to enjoy some lively jazz music and have some fun.
Day 2: New Orleans Boat Tour: After breakfast take a stroll and enjoy the street entertainment, local artist in the area as well as a short walk on the waterfront. Today we planned a great steamboat tour on the Promenade. This is an opportunity to view the city, take pictures and experience how the settlers travel on the river.
Optional : After the steamboat tour you will have time to explore the French Quarter a little more or
- Visit the Harrah’s casinos for some fun and entertainment before dinner.
- As an alternative to the casino, some people may enjoy the free ten minute ferry ride to Algiers (which leaves and comes back right there by the casino.) On Algiers Island, there is the “Mardi Gras World” where they make and store a bunch of the Mardi Gras floats. Pretty cool to see! The tour is about an hour or so long, and the costs is about $15.
Dinner: Tonight you will experience our recommended pick of New Orleans style dining and music. Starting with a bottle of wine and a taste of award-winning Galatoire’s fine dining. After a fancy dinner, I would recommend the 360 degree rotating bar for a nightcap and an excellent view of the city at night. Nice and low-key after dinner.
Day 3: New Orleans: After breakfast take stroll and tour the New Orleans art scene. Many famous museum, re-nown local artists and historical information. You will enjoy the street entertainment, local artist in the area as well as tour the art scene locally.
New Orleans Art Scene: New Orleans Museum of Art: “World-renowned for its photography and decorative glass collections and for its collections of French, Asian, African and American art, including works by Edgar Degas.”
The Contemporary Arts Center: Focus mostly on local artist and musicians. “It’s considered to have experimental projects in theatre, photography, performance, music, video, sculpture and more.
The National World War 11 Museum: Take a moment to hear about the historical days in Normandy’s beachheads to the Pacific Islands with many exhibits and displays.
French Quarter: for over 200 years has houses the city’s best known artist and galleries dealing in sculpture, vintage prints, galleries and art collections.
The Historic New Orleans Collection: Throughout the French Quarters you will see many exhibitions on the history of New Orleans. We recommend seeing the Birds of a Feather: Generations of Louisiana Decoy Carvers at the Williams Research Center.
Louisiana State Museum: ) Optional. Keep in mind this museum houses five different landmarks and offers a unique story about the history of Louisiana and more.
Upon completing the tour of the art scene, visit Pat O’Brien’s to experience New Orleans most popular drink (Hurricane and Mint Julep). Our next stop is Top of the Roof 360’ located at the Top of World Trade Center in New Orleans. High up in the sky we will enjoy a drink as the center revolves around the city. Great location for romantic sunset view and a chance to unwind and relax back on the spectacular works of art we saw today.
Dinner enjoy another causal New Orleans style dinner at Mother’s. Part of the experience is getting a full taste of the dishes native to New Orleans culture. No better place to go than were the local line up waiting.
After dinner activities are optional. We are happy to offer suggestions or recommendation, but part of the experience is touring around the French Quarter, Bourbon Town and more enjoying all the night street entertainment as you wonder down the paddle roads.
Day 4: New Orleans
Breakfast: I would suggest sleeping in a little to fully recover from your previous day’s activities. Then take a stroll back to the famous Café Du Monde for café au’lait and taste of Beingets. Again, enjoy the street entertainment and local artist in the area as well as parks and a short walk on the waterfront.
Then take a tour of the famous Audubon Aquarium of the Americas. There you will see aquatic creatures like frogs, penguins, sharks and more.
Next stop: The best way to take a break from the walking is by streetcar while touring the Garden District. Then tour the American Quarter for a fun day of shopping for beads, art, and other misc shops.
Dinner: Tonight enjoy casual dining at Crescent City Brew house. They have great food, microbrews, and a little jazz band playing most nights. Before you travel to Rock N’ Bowl for live music fun and laughter. There’s no other place like it for fun and laugher. Most businesses and locals will always recommend you experience it once.
Day 5 : New Orleans and surrounding areas
Time to get out and travel the highway viewing many areas still trying to dip out of the aftermath of Katrina along the way. Upon returning to the main center of town tour the historic plantation homes near the town area. Then take a stroll through the Garden District to relax and take more pictures.
You will travel back to the hotel for a moment of relaxation and a chance to freshen up for the evening entertainment. We have chosen a special place for you to enjoy a casual dining spot. The Po-Boy is a café, seafood joint, steakhouse and brewpub with a great oyster bar that round out New Orleans culinary mosaic. Then spend a little more time exploring the French Quarter at night with its entire street and music scene. For those interested in a little music and entertainment we selected the Tippatina’s as a starting point. Take a short trip over to Bourbon Street for a little more New Orleans entertainment.
REQUIREMENTS
We hope you join in the activities and display team spirit. Dry weather conditions prevail at the time of the tour. There are always exceptions and we suggest you bring a light jacket. The days can be pleasantly warm around 70 to 85 degrees, with cooler evenings. Tour participants should keep this in mind and bring suitable clothing. Additional information will be provided for recommended clothing prior to travel.
