7:45 pm-8:45pm Kennedy School Brewery
The Kennedy School has been a center of lively activity for the Northeast Portland neighborhood since opening in 1915. As decades passed, the school took on additional civic roles, further endearing it to its neighbors. When school was not in session, “Kennedy” served the community as a public meeting hall, polling place, Red Cross blood drawing center, collection site for paper and tin can drives, weekend playground and even flood-relief shelter.
After receiving the approval of the city and the support of the neighborhood, McMenamins launched its renovation in the spring of 1997, infusing the 80-year-old structure with new life. In particular, a river of artwork was inspired by the stories of generations of Kennedy’s students and teachers.
On October 22, 1997, the original principal’s bell was rung on the front steps at 7 a.m. sharp to herald the old school’s new beginning as McMenamins Kennedy School. Offering a unique and fun lodging, dining and meeting experience, Kennedy remains a lively gathering spot for neighbors and newcomers alike.

9:00 pm- 10:00pm McMenamins Chapel Pub
When the building was constructed in the fall of 1932, the press lauded it as “an architectural gem that ranks as one of Portland’s finest.” This was no exaggeration. More than just a beautiful showpiece, the so-named Wilson-Chambers Mortuary quickly earned a well-respected place in the community.
In the late ‘30s, new proprietors added a set of chimes to the building’s many features. The addition prompted a change in business name to the Little Chapel of the Chimes as well as the offering of organ and chimes concerts and wedding ceremonies. The Little Chapel of the Chimes continued as one of the city’s finest funeral homes until late in 2005, when its corporate owners decided to consolidate operations and close this venerable property.
McMenamins jumped at the opportunity to acquire the building, and renovated the venerable funeral home, an inductee of that year to the National Register of Historical Places, as both a restaurant and new location for its company headquarters.
History, art and craftsmanship is in abundance in the renovated space, with original work mixing with new additions. The first-noticed piece is usually the tugboat-shaped bar that anchors what originally was the funeral home’s chapel.
9:00 pm-9:15pm Bridgeport Brewery (optional)
Today, Bridgeport Brewing Company is one of the top specialty brewers in the state of Oregon. Bridgeport produces a variety of international style ales, including IPA. Bridgeport’s ales are naturally Conditioned in the bottle, keg, or cask from which they are served – they’re never force carbonated. The natural conditioning creates ale that is smooth, naturally carbonated, and full of flavor.
