Detail Itinerary
Pioneer Square: Downtown central location considered as Portland’s Living room and most popular meeting spot for visitors and locals. There are various events held at the square (Lighting of Christmas Tree, national sand castle building competition, flower fair in spring, cultural fairs etc)
History of Square: First owner purchased the block in 1858 for $24 and a pair of boots and built a school. It was then developed into a hotel, later a parking structure for Meier and Frank and eventually, in 1974, purchased by the city for public use. To help with the cost of construction people could buy bricks with their names inscribed.
Portland Building & Portlandia: As we tour through the city we will point out of interest, Portland safe figures of the road and a short stop at Portland/ Portlandia. Portlandia is 35ft copper hammered statue only second largest to Statue of Liberty.
After viewing the statue we head along Governor Tom McCall Waterfront Park as we enjoy views of the city, mountains, Saturday Market along the waterfront. Then we cross over the river to OMSI for a great view of the city.
Oregon Museum of Science and Industry: In the tradition of the Deutches Museum in Munich and the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, this two-story museum contains hands-on exhibits in topics ranging from natural sciences to brainteasers, human development and lifestyle issues, technology and more.
From OSMI we will tour south along the River about three miles, then across the Sellwood Bridge. The views along the river are amazing throughout the ride.
Rose Garden Facts: Founded in 1917, Portland’s International Rose Test Garden is the oldest official, continuously operated public rose test garden in the United States. In the beginning, even though World War I was raging in Europe, hybridists sent roses from around the world to Portland’s garden for testing and to keep the new hybrids safe from being destroyed by the bombing in Europe.
The primary purpose of the garden is to serve as a testing ground for new rose varieties. There are over 5.5 acres, 10,000+ individual plants and 550 species.
Washington Park: One of Portland’s older parks (1871). Slowly developed from wilderness to a place for public use. This park consists of over 75 miles of trails and considered as one of the safest parks in the world. The Hoyt Arboretum a 187-acre living museum of trees and plants from all over the world is considered as one of the best hiking adventures in the park. Throughout the park you will find many species of plants, trees and spectacular viewpoints.
Enjoy views of the city while you travel back to downtown Portland. We always suggest our guest experience VOO DOO DONUTS before returning to their hotel.
